Biography :

​

        Sandip Kr. Chakraborty did his B.V.A. in Sculpture from Govt. College of Art and Craft, Kolkata in 1988 and M.F.A.in ‘Creative Sculpture’ from M.S. University of Baroda in 1990.

      He was awarded ‘Major Cheppudira Ponnappa Rajaram Memorial Scholarship’ by the Govt. of Karnataka in 1985-86 and Research Grant Award in Modelling & Sculpture presented by Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi in 1990-91

      He has held five Solo Exhibitions of sculptures at Triveni Art Gallery, New Delhi; Jahangir Art Gallery, Mumbai; Mahatma Gandhi Institute, Mauritius; Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata and more than 145 group exhibitions in New Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Baroda, Bombay, Bhopal, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Guwahati, Dhaka and Paris since 1983. He has to his credit sixteen awards & scholarships in the field of sculpture and participated 27 camps & symposiums in India.

        He was invited as visiting faculty at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute in Mauritius, 2007

        He has created more than 40 public sculptures in India.

        His sculptures are in the collections of NGMA, New Delhi; LKA; and several private collections in India and abroad.

       Presently he is the Dean, Faculty of Visual Arts, Professor & head of the Department of sculpture at Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. He lives and works in Kolkata.
